Disaster Strikes!

Tonight while recording Episode 48, our main computer for recording the show decided to go ahead and have a heart attack. The computer rebooted spontaneously and then decided it didn’t want to recognize it’s hard drive anymore. So for the moment it is dead.

While this normally wouldn’t be a huge issue, it was about 2 hours into our recording session. We do have another computer to record with (a couple in fact), but not the time tonight to do it. With Carl’s vacation right around the corner we do not have the time to re-record the episode before he leaves.

What this means is that we are going to be pushing back all of our episodes 2 weeks. Episode 48 was scheduled to drop on February 19th, unfortunately that will now be delayed until March 4th. We apologize for this inconvenience. Believe us, we would have rather not just lost a couple hours of work!

This also means that our episode 49, “The Thronies” will also be delayed two weeks, dropping March 18th instead.

If the drive is still ‘good’, you can use recuva to pull the episode if it’s saved somewhere, even a temp location as you record.

The drive isn’t even recognized at this point. It’s probably easier to just re-record the episode. It was an older PC I used for the studio recording. I’m going to be upgrading soon. Thanks for the advice though!

    Ouch! NoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOo!

  4. When you guys fix the computer make sure you bless the PC's machine spirit and pray to the Omnissiah before you start recording.

It's stories like these that make me think hard about ponying up for a solid state drive for my main computer.

@ adam. If you go down the ssd road, remember to check for firmware updates. Just had days off hell with mine. Solved by a small firmwareupdate. Doh. Also dead hardrives and no backups is painfull. Particularly these days with 1+ Tb being the.norm.

  7. Jay Morrison says:

SSDs are not very expensive anymore — you can typically get 120gb for around $80-$90

  8. Simon Crouch says:

I do believe this was a Necron Technosorcery attack…did you make fun of t heir I2 again?

  9. Carl Tuttle says:

Well to be fair – it was a really old computer I was using for this. Probably 8 years old at this point. That will teach me for trying to do something on the cheap.

  10. Its not if it happens …….. its when….good to have that now and not at adpeticon.

  11. Podcasts don't make money, so doing it on the cheap is a viable option…one that now has burst into flames.

  12. Simon Crouch says:

Go with the latpop, a mobile studio is probably a good thing, :)

  13. David Castro says:

Is it an IDE or SATA drive? If it still spools up I might be able to recover it for you depending on the format it was saved in.

  14. Adam Fasoldt says:

Super Star Destroyers are at LEAST 1.5 million creds on the black market.

  15. Adam Fasoldt says:

I've heard that if you put the drive in the freezer overnight, it will run for a few more minutes and you can get your crap off it.

  16. Adam Fasoldt says:

depending on the problem, of course.

  17. Thys Van Zyl says:

Damn! Don't call it the Boiler Room for nothing eh? I'll be reciting the litanies of patient waiting until the next episode.

  18. Jeremy Parsons says:

Bollocks! I was looking forward to some Tau FW nostalgia!
Were you covering the new FW addendums as well?
